WHAT'S JELLYFISH?
A Jellyfish (also known as jellies or sea jellies) are free-swimming members of the phylum Cnidaria. They have several different morphologies that represent several different cnidarian classes including the Scyphozoa and Hydrozoa. Jellyfish are found in every ocean, from the surface to the deep sea. Some hydrozoan jellyfish, or hydromedusae, are also found in fresh water. These are the big, often colorful, jellyfish that are common in coastal zones worldwide.
They generally come in a dome or flat shape being more complex than polyps. Jellyfish’s nervous system lacks a centralized brain. Despite this fact their receptor for light and smell is more dominant.
They are slow swimming creatures due to the lack of a hydrodynamic body. The ripple effect is a distraction in catching their prey.
Why have we selected our logo as jellyfish?
Our product resembles a common jellyfish with common specifications. That is the main reason on selecting this figure for our logo.
Why ROVKiller?
Today’s underwater mines in defense industry are triggered only by actions regarding submarines or naval ships. With the advances in the technology, mine hunting ships are more resistant to shockwaves created by mine explosion and underwater robots are now more commonly used to disarm the mines.
The costs of such robots vary generally between 1-3 million dollars, where mine hunting ships employ 1 or 2 ROV’s tops.
ROVKiller can be regarded as an extra or alternative triggering mechanism for underwater mines.
In this scenario ROVKiller goes to bottom together with the mine. As long as the mine is active, the light emitting ROV is destroyed by the detonation of the mine itself.
The prototype of the system is completed in April 2009 and now is under testing.
